Meet Our New Sheepskins
The World’s Finest Fibres: Meet Our New Sheepskin Range
At The Wool Company, Sarah and I have always strived to find and and share with you The World’s Finest Fibres.
The new additions to our sheepskin range are no exception. These stunning new members of our collection embody the luxurious feel and long-lasting quality we know you love.
Over the past 17 years, we have been steadily building our reputation for offering the best range of high-quality sheepskin in the UK.
Since we began, we’ve worked closely with what is now sadly the last remaining commercial sheepskin tannery in England. We are also proud to support new businesses emerging in this space, and we are the major customer of several small tanneries and processors across the UK and EU. Over the past 15 years, both British and EU-based tanneries have been hard at work developing eco-tanning techniques. Their processes have now been perfected for producing high-quality tanned British sheepskins. Historically, organic and eco-tanning—which avoids the use of chrome and bleach—resulted in lower-quality sheepskins with less longevity. Whilst organic tanning techniques still suffers this to some extent, it's no longer the case for eco-tanned sheepskins.
Our main tannery in the UK, with its rigorous quality control processes and adherence to British standards, finishes these skins to the very highest quality. These standards ensure that any chemicals used in the tanning process are handled properly, fully regulated, don't escape into the environment or remain in the sheepskin. In contrast, tanneries outside the UK and EU, especially those in Eastern Europe and the Far East, can face issues with residual chemicals, heavy metals in their products, and environmental pollution, which can harm workers, the environment, and even customers.
We're pleased to support these smaller EU tanneries that use more sustainable synthetic and natural tannins, without chrome, harmful dyes, or bleaches. These methods reduce environmental impact while ensuring the sheepskins are as kind to the planet as they are to your home and loved ones. By choosing these eco-tanned sheepskins, you’re bringing not only softness and style into your space but also a touch of sustainability, with the added benefit of finishing processes handled right here in the UK.
Of course, all our sheepskins are safe for you and your family, including the little ones! Whether you’re seeking a cosy accent for your living room or a luxurious layer for your bedroom, our new sheepskin range offers timeless beauty and warmth, with the added benefit of local craftsmanship.
