Our extensive range of Traditional Ikat Pashminas are hand-loomed in the mountainous region of Kashmir, Northern India.
Woven from 100% finest cashmere pashmina, which comes from the highest plateaus of Ladakh, in Northern India over 4500 metres above sea level, where this precious fibre is combed by hand from the underbelly of the Changthangi goat during the moulting season each Spring. Each goat only produces about 100-170g of this ultra-fine cashmere every year, as it is so fine and so lightweight. The fibre is then spun into yarn and this is then transported to the centre of weaving, in Srinagar, where the magic of these designs comes to life using a type of tie-dye (resist-dyeing technique) where sections of yarns are tightly tied so they remain undyed. The yarn can go through this painstaking process several times to create intricate and complex designs. They have been made this way for many hundreds of years, using the same traditional methods that have not changed. The dyed yarns are then woven by skilled artisans who handloom each piece to create a unique item. As each piece of the pashmina has been handmade, please do expect some inconsistencies and 'flaws', which all add to the character of these ultimate slow-fashion pieces.
